Bulgaria Has All the Ingredients to Lead Europe's Next Wave

After spending time in Bulgaria, I’m convinced it might be one of the most underestimated countries in Europe for entrepreneurs — and here’s why.

What if Bulgaria became the model that inspires the rest of Europe?

After spending time here, a few things genuinely stand out to me:

1️⃣ International mindset. At the EY CFO Forum, Ilian Mihov, a Bulgarian economist, presented in English in a room full of Bulgarian leaders. That was such a flex. You would never see that in France or Germany. There is this underlying understanding that the game is international from day one.

2️⃣ Drive. I’ve seen it across Eastern Europe. People want to grow. Build. Make money. And there’s no shame around it. No endless justification. No guilt. Just ambition.

3️⃣ Care. Ironically, as a Frenchman, my first real protest was in Bulgaria. And what impressed me? People were protesting corruption — fighting for a fairer country, for a better future, not a remaining past.

4️⃣ Business environment. I usually avoid reducing Bulgaria to “low taxes” because the country is much more than that. But objectively, it’s one of the easiest places in Europe to build. Low friction. Simple setup. Less administrative insanity. You can actually focus on growing the business.

5️⃣ EU + Euro + Business = That combination could attract a massive wave of entrepreneurs over the next 5–10 years. And it seems like Bulgarians themselves are already coming back from abroad.

And beyond business: nature, culture, authenticity, mountains, sea, safety, talent.

Bulgaria feels like one of the few places in Europe with a growing momentum. Maybe I’m wrong. But I genuinely believe Bulgaria has all the ingredients to go full BangaRanga.
