Focus on your business first.
(Should I say that?)
Most people would tell you, especially in AI:
“You have to jump on the train now, otherwise you’ll disappear.”
A bit of catastrophism that often serves no purpose…
except their sales pipeline...
The tech train has always existed.
And yes, businesses disappear every day because they fail to innovate and get eaten by competitors.
But there’s another thing that is just as true:
Innovation should serve your business and your clients.
It should increase the value you create, not simply add technology to the stack.
And AI is no different.
Before implementing AI, I think there are two things you should really think about:
1️⃣ Process
What is the purpose of the AI you’re implementing?
What is the end value?
Where can it make the biggest impact: growth, cost savings, quality, speed, capacity?
Don’t start with “Where can we use AI?”
Start with “Where can we create more value?”
2️⃣ Knowledge
Will the implementation create new knowledge?
Improve how knowledge flows through the organisation?
Make existing knowledge more accessible?
This is a big one that I think is often overlooked.
You can automate a process beautifully while gradually losing the knowledge behind it.
And that can create disappointment… or worse, make the business more dependent on a system it doesn’t really understand.
So yes, AI is here to stay.
And yes, businesses will seize markets thanks to AI.
We’re experiencing it ourselves at Capto: our reach and production are multiplied compared to our size.
But that doesn’t mean you should implement AI because someone told you that you’re already late.
Analyse your business.
Look at your processes.
Look at your knowledge.
Look at your market.
Then figure out where AI can make the biggest splash.
No panic. No FOMO.
Just good business first. And technology serving it.
Not so technical today.
But actually, this is what makes the technical useful in the first place. 😉
Have a great week,
Alexis
