Welcome to episode #21 of Agents of AI, Capto’s podcast for leaders who want to understand how humans + AI agents are reshaping the future.
The "Dumbledore of Tax" (for Harry Potter fans!) joins us to share:

  • Our guest is based in Luxembourg and has spent their career at the intersection of finance, operations, and private market executions. They spent close to a decade at a "big four firm" and seven years in senior management and on the investment committee of a top private equity firm, where they led transaction support from deal approval to closing and managed the holding period.

  • Their responsibilities included a broad range of tax and structuring topics, such as investor and fund structuring, SPV management, and carry vehicles. Two years prior to the recording, they started their own business where they operate as a board member, fractional CEO and CFO, and an intermediary on M&A transactions.

  • They are motivated by finance and investment management because it offers both "depth and breadth", requires rigor, structure, and precision, and provides a 360-degree view on value creation within an organization. They find the field "more and more exciting" with no routine.

  • What most people underestimate about their role is the complexity of the business and the "transversal nature of the work" of those in operations of an investment structure fund. They believe strong professionals in private markets become a "Swiss army knife" for numbers, decision making, operations, execution, and risk management.

  • They apply AI to their current business to compress time, increase quality at every step of execution, and help focus on the output and communication to make the message understandable. This includes structuring deliverables, drafting memos or board minutes, and synthesizing complex information. With the caution that users should still critically assess everything, treat it as a junior person within your team.

  • In the future they foresee AI as a "glue that makes this thing sticks" by cutting elements of friction such as unnecessary friction, manual work, heavy coordination, repeated errors, and delays that exhaust teams. The ultimate goal is a future where the finance team spends most of its time on strategy, investment decisions, and value creation rather than coordinating low-value tasks.

  • They advise peers and newcomers to the field, "Don't fear, embrace it". They encourage adapting to the new world instead of resisting what is the "next generation and the way forward".
