On this week's "What I've noticed as a finance newbie": Nobody wants a demo, they want their Tuesday back. 🤫
Most finance leaders I’ve encountered aren't against automation, they're against the project that comes with it. That’s the new platform, the retraining, the three months when the close runs slower before it runs faster.
That's why the conversations that go well rarely begin with a demo. When someone opens with "let me show you what AI can do," people nod politely and move on, but when it opens with "walk me through your Tuesday," they start thinking out loud about which steps they'd gladly hand off, and that's where the real use cases come from, usually the repetitive ones, like moving data between files and systems that nobody enjoys and everyone depends on.
The approach that Capto has been applying for years now is automation that works around the team's existing process instead of replacing it, where nobody changes how they work, the people who know the numbers stay in control of every judgment call, and the company owns what gets built.
And sometimes the honest answer is that a small team with simple finances doesn't need any of it yet, which is a perfectly good outcome.
The time saved matters, but what matters more is where it goes - analysis, forecasting and conversations with the business, the work finance leaders were hired to do in the first place.
P.S. We still have the demos though, so if you’d like to see one, feel free to reach out. 👀
Have a great week!
