Will AI make outsourcing disappear?

What do you think?

Lately I hear a lot of things like:
“We can do it ourselves.”
“We handle this perfectly internally.”
“In a few months AI will do it automatically.”
“I’m not sure how… but it works.”

At the same time:
I have dozens of friends looking for accountants (apparently there is still a shortage).
DEV.BG recently shared with French Tech Sofia that there have never been so many IT jobs open.

So something interesting is happening.

(Story time)

I remember when I started in the Big4. That was the era of drag-and-drop tools and “citizen development.” The promise was simple:
“Business teams will build everything themselves.”

What actually happened?
Companies ended up hiring technical people to operate non-technical tools, often with expensive licenses, because teams simply didn’t have the time or expertise.

And honestly… it made sense.
This is exactly why we built Capto.

Not to replace people.
Not to harass internal teams with more tools.
But to help companies become more efficient without constantly needing to hire more people.

And now with AI… I feel like we’re entering a very similar cycle again.
After 100+ automation and AI projects, one thing is clear:
AI doesn’t remove the need for expertise. It changes where that expertise sits.
